ADA Restoration Passes the House!

As reported in many places, H.R. 3195, the ADA Amendments Act, formerly ADA Restoration Act, passed the house today 402 to 17. Seventeen “esteemed” members of Congress decided people with disabilities did not need the ADA to be interpreted as it was intended instead of wrongly as the Supreme Court has done. Who are these 17 “honorable” members of Congress? They are:

  • Paul Broun (R-19th GA)
  • John Campbell (R-44th CA)
  • John Doolittle (R-4th CA)
  • John Duncan (R-2nd TN)
  • Jeff Flake (R-6th AZ)
  • Scott Garrett (R-5th NJ)
  • Louie Gohmert (R-1st TX)
  • Jeb Hensarling (R-5th TX)
  • Jack Kingston (R-1st GA)
  • John Linder (R-7th GA)
  • Kenny Marchant (R-24th TX)
  • Ron Paul (R-14th TX) * So much for me liking this guy!
  • Ted Poe (R-2nd TX)
  • Tom Price (R-6th GA)
  • Thomas Tancredo (R-6th CO)
  • Dave Weldon (R-15th FL)
  • Lynn Westmoreland (R-3rd GA)

And, look, they are all Republicans…

Wheelchair Kiwi Fights Home Invaders

The May 30, 2007 New Zealand Herald printed a story about a fellow in a wheelchair who drove off two burglars who brazenly broke into his home while he was present. Read the full story on how Michael Shanahan fought two drunk social parasites off by using his electric wheelchair’s horn, a bright light, and by ramming his chair into them! Rock on, Kiwi!

Million Dollar Bigot

The video documentary “Million Dollar Bigot,” a response to Clint Eastwood and the “Right to Die” movement, is online for free at Google Videos. In Eastwood’s “Million Dollar Baby,” Hillary Swank, who gets Oscars when she plays a character who gets killed, plays a boxer who is injured and is now a quad. Her character is murdered “mercifully” because she could not live with her disability. Yeah, right. There is no life for someone completely paralyzed from the neck down. Anyone heard of Christopher Reeve?

You know, Mr. Eastwood has been sued for ADA violations at resorts he owns and he has fought these lawsuits saying it’s unfair. It’s probably just a coincidence that he made a movie where a gimp is killed.

Basically, he wants business owners to be given “warnings” before they are sued for ADA violations. Mr. Eastwood, the ADA was made law 16 years ago. How much warning do you need? I’ve been waiting 41 years and counting for all businesses to be accessible to me.
